Our Post History

There is much more that just what is written...

Post 321 was established on 23 Oct 2006. Our Permanent Charter was signed off on 19 Mar 07.  We have been active since the very first day we came together with the assistance of AJ Schmitt. The paper work was completed and the first 20 veterans joined the Legion. Since then, Post 321 has had over 80 members and numerous other post transfers into our post family.

Post 321 has over 30 million volunteer service hours just in our 12 years.
Post 321 has helped over 45,000 families and veterans with holiday gift baskets in the last 12 years.
Post 321 has donated over $60,000 in fundraiser moneys to different veterans and Soldiers over the last 12 years.

On the Saturday proceeding Memorial Day we place new American Flags on the Graves of our Departed Veterans and on Memorial Day we join with the members of our Sister Post 168 in Hinesville for their Memorial Day Observance.

In addition, we have established a policy where we conduct several American Flag Retirement/Disposal Ceremony’s for

Un-serviceable American Flags.

In 2009 then MG Anthony Cucolo, 3rd ID Commander, who became a member of our Post during our Installation of Officers for the 2009-2010 term, asked why was there no Veterans Day Parade in the area around Fort Stewart, when we stated Savannah had the Parade, he said why not have one here at the Home of the 3rd ID also, thus, with a quick action Plan. The 1st Annual Liberty County Veterans Day Parade was held on that Nov 11th, 2009.

We have and still spend time teaching Americanism in local schools, assisting Active Duty Personnel, Veterans their families and the members of our Community.

We along with members of the South Newport Baptist Church held the first ever Four Chaplains Service at their Church, and this observance is carried on by the veterans of the church.

We joined with the local DAV to Remember the Tragic Day of Infamy (Dec 7th, 1941) and several of our Members are active in VVA, Liberty County Chapter 789.

Members of our Post have held such Positions as the 1st District Commander, Sr. Vice & Jr. Vice Cmdr, 1st District, and even as Committee Chair of the Department of GA’s Public Relations Committee.

We started with 20 Legionnaires on our Temporary Charter in Oct 06, and now currently have 85+ members. Our members live all over the US’s from Texas, to Virginia, Mississippi to FL. Not withstanding our members here in GA reside in Ludowici, Riceboro, Hinesville, Fleming and of course Midway.

Our past commanders include: Dennis Fitzgerald and A.J. Scmitt.

We currently meet at the Smoking Pig Restaurant on the 2nd Thursday of each month, at 6.30 PM. We strive to meet at 6 PM to have a meal with our Legion Family members, so come on out and join us.
