May 10, 2018 Meeting
As the American Legion Post 321 sat down for our monthly meeting, each member could here a lot of laughter, talk about each others day and life, and most of the fellowship of one other. One could say you felt the friendship and love in the room. The post had two new members join on Thursday so welcome to our family!! The post is very excited to see new faces at the table. The post gave a moment of silence for the fallen in the plane crash on highway 21 that involved the 9 Puerto Rico National Guard Soldiers.
Some old business we discussed was our upcoming Fish Fry on May 19, 2018. All members should be present and dressed in our American Legion shirts to help with the Fish Fry. The members will be expected to help with cooking, serving, and clean-up.
The post moved forward to schedule a flag retirement ceremony for June 2, 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Midway Congregational Church. The post will have help from the Boy Scout Troop 527 in the flag ceremony.
The post got the first look at the brand new website and approved of the changes made.
Elections were next: There was no opposition in any of the offices, so a motion was made and approved to elect all officers by acclamation.
The following is a list of officers for 2018 and 2019:
Commander Dennis Fitzgerald
Senior Vice Jeff Bowen
Junior Vice Casey Nash
The following officers were appointed by Commander Fitzgerald:
Sgt-at-Arms Stephen Berg
Historian Bill Walter
Chaplain Murray Romine
Finance Alan Patterson
Adjutant John Ryon
New Business was opened for discussion after elections. Commander Fitzgerald asked all members to consider serving on one of the numerous committees in the Post. A list of committees was read. It was highly encouraged for our members to take part in these committees.
The post decided for July 14 to be designated as Installation of new officers. Installation will be held at Smokin’ Pig in Midway. Meals will be provided by the Post. Please bring your families out and have great meal on us.

The post made a motion made and was approved to purchase new Ceremonial Georgia and US Flags to replace those in current use. Commander Fitzgerald also gave two new ribbons for our post flag to be placed. Both for 100% of membership during the years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. This is a huge accomplishment for Post 321 as it competes with Hinesville Post 169 for membership. We are very active in the community and will continue to be active! Way to go!!
